Project Description
The Vietnamese International Student Alliance (VISA) is dedicated to bridging the gap between Vietnamese newcomers and the Canadian community. Established in 2011, VISA’s mission is to provide a supportive environment where international students can overcome the challenges of homesickness and cultural adjustment.
Inspiration
To test the new members of Design team as well as the new members of the whole organisation, I proposed a rebrand project for VISA. This was my first time in a role of leadership, which I was happy to see how things went.
Sketching Phase
After briefing the team on the project's scope and goal, the first step, I requested each member contributed mind maps and sketches. One thing I learned during this time was keeping the meeting short, informative as well as written weekly objective at the end of each meeting. We spent a total of 3 weeks to finalise the brand's direction.
Logo finalisation
The final version was VISA logo with lowercase A wearing a classic straw hat. Vina Sans typeface was chosen, resembled fonts of old Vietnamese banners. This font can be taken from Google Font, available in English and Vietnamese, which is accessible for future VISA members.
Brand guide
To assist future member of the design team, I directed the team to create an extensive brand guideline.
Conclusion
This project taught me a valuable lesson in responsibility, communication and timeline management. One of the most important thing I learned is setting boundaries and expectation when assigning tasks to my team members.
